How to remove broken tiles

Posted on November 22, 2010

The main problem with tile removing what it can be very difficult. But it is necessary to do, when you choosing new bathroom tile designs.

The first point to remember is that tiles over time will break, which is normal. So what is the easiest way to remove these tiles and to replace it with shiny new ones?

The first step is to manually remove these tiles by hand, as you would if you were untrained (Which you will be when first starting out, unless you are a professional decorator)

The second step will involve a putty knife, which can be bought in any hardware store for a relatively affordable price. Your main use with this is to even out any adhesive that may be adding pointless bulk to the surface which will pose a problem when fitting new tiles.

The third step is to start mixing grout mixture, again bought from a hardware store. Add the grout on the surface, again using the putty knife and then place the new tiles on the surface, in order to perfectly even out the tiles, use separators to create an even space between each tile.

Wait over night (approximately 24 hours) which by this point, will need to now start thinking about using a trowel to spread the grout evenly between the joints. Again making sure there are no gaps in between the joints or air holes. This is important as this will pose a problem once the grout sets.

Lastly, finish off with a sealer in order to prevent any moisture from going in between the tiles, which can potentially ear out the tiles and cause breakage over time.

When looking at these steps, it becomes clear that the process is simple and easy. It does not have to be daunting at all and can in fact be applied by anyone if you know the steps involved and the tools needed in order to do so. This includes picking out bathroom tile designs in order to lay out a foundation. Again, bare in mind that the big picture and the concept of looking at an entire wall of tiles can put off anyone wanting to do this, but again, take it one step at a time, and before you know it, you will have a wall of beautiful looking tiles, evenly spaced and looking like it was done by a professional.
